People from around the state drive to Genola Minnesota every Wednesday to the Red Rooster Bar for Bologna Days. Bologna Days is a long standing tradition in the town of Pierz/Genola which began as far back as the 1950’s and is the perfect destination for the hungry motorist.

Walking into the ‘The Rooster’ as the locals call it, it’s your typical bar with high-top tables and a bar that stretches nearly the length of the building. The bar is clean and has windows throughout. Finding a seat can be troublesome if you are not there early enough. The busy waitress will take a drink order and then send you to get in line. A simple paper plate, plastic fork is available to load up with as much horseradish, horseradish pickles, ketchup, white bread, baked beans and ring bologna! If you hit the right week, there is a polka band playing in the corner.

Bologna Day’s is one of those experiences that is fun to share with people from out of state, friends and family. It’s a simple meal and reflects the local german heritage. https://www.sctimes.com/story/life/2014/07/17/hoheisel-column-bologna-staple-small-town-minnesota/12810815/ Bologna Days in Pierz is far from fancy but is an opportunity to experience something new.
